SEMH Teaching Assistant - Lewisham
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school near Lewisham.
The ideal candidate will support students with emotional and behavioral challenges, ensuring they have the best educational experience possible.
Responsibilities
- Support the classroom teacher in delivering the curriculum effectively to students with SEMH needs.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students.
- Provide one-on-one support to students experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulties.
- Create a safe and inclusive learning environment that promotes positive behavior and social skills.
- Work closely with parents, teachers, and other professionals to monitor and promote student progress.
- Encourage students to engage with learning activities and manage their behavior in the classroom.
- Help facilitate group activities that foster teamwork and interpersonal skills among students.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior, reporting any concerns to the teacher or management.
- Participate in training sessions, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities as required.
Essential Qualifications:
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
- Good understanding of the educational needs of children with SEMH challenges.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a caring demeanor.
Desired Experience:
- Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special educational needs (SEN).
- Experience in a school setting is preferred, especially in roles focusing on SEMH support.
- Experience in managing challenging behavior and implementing strategies to promote positive changes.
