An OFSTED good school in Wandsworth are looking for a teaching assistant to join their thriving staff team for the beginning of the new year with the view to work for the rest of the academic year and go permanent for the right teaching assistant. The school is a highly creative, forward-thinking community school where, from the very start of their journey in nursery to when they leave in Year 6, the children are taught the skills and knowledge to succeed not only in school but in life. Teaching assistants should carry unrelenting expectations of attainment and behaviour for every single pupil and intergrate with the excellent staff team to share their passion for education and getting the absolute best for every child.

As a teaching assistant, you will be joining a happy school that the staff are very proud of as only when a child is happy, safe and secure can they really have the confidence to step out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves in their learning. The teachers and teaching assistants ensure that the children are challenged in every lesson, every day and thrive academically. The school is very accessible for all teaching assistants via public transport and is walking distance from the overground station.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A TEACHING ASSISTANT

Teaching Assistant support for Pupils:

  • Support pupils to make good academic progress, under the direction of the teacher and Inclusion leader
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence
  • Implement group or 1:1 interventions to support pupils who have emotional or social barriers to learning
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils

Teaching Assistant Support for Teachers:

  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils' work
  • Use strategies, under the direction of the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals
  • Discuss with the teacher how learning activities are to be organised and what their own support role will be

Qualifications needs as a Teaching Assistant:

Essential:

  • Good literacy skills - GCSE Grade C or above in English Language; Level 2 English or above; or equivalent
  • Good numeracy skills- GCSE Grade C or above in Maths; Level 2 Maths or above; or equivalent

Desirable for a teaching assistant:

  • An honours degree (preferably Upper Second) or equivalent
