Teaching Assistant

Veritas Education are working with a lovely school looking to hire a teaching assistant to work in a small KS1 class with an immediate start. Your role would be full time contract. The successful KS1 teaching assistant will be working alongside a team of teachers to deliver a well rounded learning experience. Experience as a teaching assistant would be preferable or recent graduates with an interest going into special educational needs or psychology.

You will be helping deliver an exciting curriculum as a KS1 teaching assistant where children are encouraged to explore, discover and question through an enriching learning experience. They recognise and celebrate the talents of each child, enabling them to grow in confidence and excel in both their educational and personal goals. As a KS1 teaching assistant, you will work with a team, parets and the wider community to support the needs of the children in your care.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A TEACHING ASSISTANT

Teaching Assistant support for Pupils:

  • Support pupils to make good academic progress, under the direction of the teacher and Inclusion leader
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence
  • Implement group or 1:1 interventions to support pupils who have emotional or social barriers to learning
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils

Teaching Assistant Support for Teachers:

  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils' work
  • Use strategies, under the direction of the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals
  • Discuss with the teacher how learning activities are to be organised and what their own support role will be

Qualifications needs as a KS1 Teaching Assistant:

Essential:

  • Good literacy skills - GCSE Grade C or above in English Language; Level 2 English or above; or equivalent
  • Good numeracy skills- GCSE Grade C or above in Maths; Level 2 Maths or above; or equivalent

Desirable for a KS1 teaching assistant:

  • An honours degree (preferably Upper Second) or equivalent
