About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated team and work closely with a Year 1 child with autism in a vibrant primary school located in Shepherd's Bush. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in a child's education and development within a supportive and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored one-to-one support to a child with autism, ensuring their emotional, social, and academic needs are met.
  • Assist the child in accessing the curriculum and adapting learning materials where necessary.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and structured learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to implement and review the child's Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Encourage and promote independence and confidence in the child's daily activities.
  • Support the child during transitions and unstructured times, such as playtime and lunchtimes.

About You:
To succeed in this role, you will be:

  • Passionate about working with children and supporting their development.
  • Patient, empathetic, and understanding of the needs of children with autism.
  • A team player who is proactive, reliable, and adaptable.
  • Familiar with autism-friendly strategies and approaches, or eager to learn them.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience working with children, particularly those with additional needs.
  • A good understanding of autism and how it can impact learning and behavior.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build a trusting and positive relationship with the child and their family.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualifications in education or special educational needs (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification, Autism Awareness training).
  • Previous experience in a similar role or setting.
