Join Our Team as a Teaching Assistant for Children with Autism and Down Syndrome

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with special educational needs? We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and experienced Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 or in group sessions with children who have Autism and Down Syndrome across EYFS to Year 6. You will be supporting children with EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans), ensuring that they receive the tailored support they need to thrive in their learning environment.

Position Details:

  • Location: (Woolwich) Primary schools across Bexley, Greenwich, and Lewisham
  • Contract Duration: Until July 2025 (with a high possibility of this running into the new academicyear 2026)
  • Working Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
  • Pay: Competitive based on experience

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support children with Autism and Down Syndrome in 1:1 and group settings.
  • Provide personalized assistance and learning support based on each child's individual needs.
  • Work closely with teachers and other support staff to implement strategies outlined in the child's EHCP.
  • Assist in the development of social, emotional, and educational skills through tailored learning activities.
  • Promote inclusion and support the child's personal growth and confidence in a nurturing school environment.
  • Ensure a safe, supportive, and engaging atmosphere for children to reach their full potential.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience working with children who have Autism and/or Down Syndrome is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of EHCPs and the ability to implement strategies effectively.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive approach to working with children with diverse learning needs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • A proactive attitude and the ability to adapt to each child's needs and learning style.
