Teaching Assistant
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic team in a Primary School in Eltham, Greenwich as soon as possible. This full-time role offers the opportunity to support children in Key Stage 2 (KS2) in the mornings and work 1:1 with a non-verbal child with autism in Year 1 in the afternoons.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide general classroom support for KS2 students, assisting teachers with day-to-day learning activities, group work, and helping students with their academic progress.
- Support students in a variety of subjects, ensuring they have the tools and guidance needed to succeed.
- Work 1:1 in the afternoons with a Year 1 child with autism, providing tailored support to help the child engage in their learning and activities.
- Assist with communication and social interaction strategies for the child, adapting approaches to support their needs.
- Help the child feel comfortable and confident in their learning environment, ensuring they are safe and supported throughout the school day.
- Collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO, and other staff to implement individual learning strategies and ensure the child's well-being.
- Observe and monitor the child's progress and assist in adapting their learning materials to suit their needs.
Ideal Candidate:
- Previous experience in working with primary school-aged children, ideally in a teaching assistant role.
- Experience working with children with autism, particularly non-verbal children, is highly desirable.
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach, with the ability to build a positive relationship with children.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to individual needs.
- A proactive, flexible approach to supporting children's learning both in groups and individually.
- Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent), are preferred.
- A genuine passion for supporting children's development and creating an inclusive learning environment.
