David Astbury’s Estate Agents was founded in 2017 and today there are 3 branches across North London. With approximately 60 employees across all locations the role holder will be required to be visible in each branch across each week.

The HR Operations Manager will lead the HR function and take responsibility for operational HR processes across multiple locations. This is currently a standalone generalist role that includes managing recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and compliance with employment laws, as well as providing administrative support to ensure smooth office operations. The role holder is responsible for developing the People Plan for the company and communicating this to relevant stakeholders.

What you'll be doing:

Recruitment and Onboarding:

  • Collaborate with the Managing Director and the department heads to identify staffing needs.
  • Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, from job posting to onboarding.
  • Conduct initial interviews and coordinate the selection process with relevant heads of departments.
  • Ensure a smooth onboarding experience for new employees, including inductions, setting up IT access, and supporting the process with Digital Eden.

Employee Relations:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for employee questions and concerns
  • Mediate and resolve workplace conflicts, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Provide advice and guidance to managers and employees regarding employee relations cases
  • Identify business risk and liaise with the leadership team to advice as appropriate

Performance Management:

  • Implement and manage performance appraisal processes, working alongside the management team
  • Provide guidance to managers on performance-related matters and ensure employees are supported in achieving their goals.

Training and Development:

  • Identify training needs and coordinate programs with Head of Department support.
  • Encourage continuous learning and professional development across the team.

HR Policies and Compliance:

  • Develop and update HR policies in line with current employment laws.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and stay informed about changes in employment law and industry trends.

Benefits Administration:

  • Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance and retirement plans.
  • Communicate and educate employees about their benefits. Respond to employee queries

Employee Engagement:

  • Develop and implement initiatives to improve employee engagement and satisfaction.
  • Organise and conduct employee surveys to gauge engagement and gather feedback.
  • Work with line managers to develop action plans across each branch to improve employee engagement.

Office Operations:

  • Oversee general office management tasks such as ordering supplies, managing company car records, and handling utilities and council tax for multiple branches.
  • Manage the administrative support for the HR department, including handling parking fines and office utilities.

Administrative Support:

  • Provide administrative support to directors, including personal and business-related requests.
  • Assist the marketing team with events, community outreach, and brand awareness initiatives.
  • Support the recruitment process by collecting applicant documents, scheduling interviews, and ensuring compliance with hiring protocols.
  • Oversee the onboarding process for all new employees, including setting up phones, computers, email accounts, and other necessary systems.
  • Liaise with external marketing teams to update the company website with new staff bios and headshots.
  • Handle company expenses, IT issues, and other ad hoc operational requests as instructed by senior leadership.

Essential Requirements

  • Standalone HR experience preferred
  • Minimum 2+ year experience
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and regulations.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other HR-related software.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
  • Proven experience in HR management and office operations.
  • Working towards CIPD qualification desirable
