About the Role: We are seeking a dedicated Rent Arrears Recovery & Enforcement Officer to join our Housing Income & Financial Inclusion Team within the Shared Finance Service. This role is critical in ensuring the effective collection and recovery of housing rent and temporary accommodation charges.
You will be responsible for managing a caseload of rent arrears, supporting tenants in financial difficulty, and enforcing recovery actions in line with council policies. Working collaboratively with internal and external partners, you will contribute to maintaining high rent collection levels and minimising arrears.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of rent accounts, ensuring arrears are effectively monitored and recovered.
- Provide income maximisation and debt counselling services to tenants in arrears.
- Engage with vulnerable tenants, working closely with support agencies and financial inclusion services.
- Prepare and serve tenancy possession notices and manage legal recovery actions.
- Represent the company in court proceedings related to rent arrears and evictions.
- Ensure compliance with policies, legal requirements, and best practice guidelines.
- Contribute to service improvements by updating policies and procedures within the income recovery team.
- Work in partnership with legal services, social care teams, and external support agencies to support tenants.
- Experience in housing rent recovery and enforcement.
- Strong knowledge of debt recovery processes and legal frameworks related to tenancy enforcement.
- Experience of working in a customer-focused environment with the ability to handle difficult conversations sensitively.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in ICT systems used for housing income management.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines and service targets.
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs (including English & Maths) or equivalent.
- Experience of working with multiple agencies to support customers.
- Understanding of relevant legislation, including the Care Act, Safeguarding, and Data Protection policies.
