Purpose of role: Our Marine Technical Team develops the technical data, evidence, tools and processes which underpin critical decisions affecting the future of our marine environment and energy system. Working together with colleagues throughout our Marine business, we aim to show how the seabed can be utilised in the safest, most sustainable and cost-effective way possible, to deliver net zero and marine nature recovery.

This is a challenging, diverse and impactful role, which involves undertaking and managing activity in the areas of project engineering, data creation, digitalisation, technology insights and research. Main Accountabilities:

  • Specify, procure and manage technical data creation projects aligned with our wider research strategy and the requirements of multiple sectors and leasing programmes
  • Design and deliver in-house and external research projects, aimed at filling gaps in our knowledge and informing our multi-sector approach to spatial optimisation
  • Work with leasing programme teams to undertake technical analysis, review external reporting and contribute to decision-making
  • Initiate and support academic partnerships and represent The Crown Estate on joint-industry projects and forums
  • Engage pro-actively with colleagues across the Marine business to assist with technical queries and identify opportunities for innovation and value creation

Knowledge, experience & skills:

  • Knowledge of the importance of engineering, data (modelling and surveying) and techno-economic analysis in the offshore renewable energy industry
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, stakeholder engagement and report-writing skills and the ability to distil complex analysis into easily relatable insights
  • Candidates are expected to come from a diverse range of technical backgrounds. Experience in one or more of the following is desirable
    • Working with complex technical data (ideally, metocean or seabed geology) and engaging with stakeholders to shape valuable data products.
    • Offshore renewable energy project engineering, preferably working across multiple engineering disciplines
    • Developing code-based technical solutions (ideally Python)
    • Energy system modelling
