We are happy to be recruiting for one of our high-profile Utilities clients. They are currently looking for an I.T Programme/Portfolio Manager to join them for an initial 6-month contract. However, there may be scope for extension.

The IT Programme/Portfolio Manager is responsible for the delivery of a business aligned portfolio of IT projects. You will support and maintain the vision of the projects and their delivery through a high performing team of project managers, working with the senior IT and Business Management teams to ensure success.

Overview of the Role:

The Programme/Portfolio manager works closely with the business sponsors and stakeholders in IT and business to define how the project will be delivered and methodology to be used. They will support IT Project Managers in the delivery of their projects removing blockers and supporting lessons learned process improvements across the whole of the IT community with the senior IT stakeholders and PMO.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure project manager plans are built and maintained to the right quality, providing regular and accurate reports to stakeholders
  • Manages dependencies in the portfolio
  • Monitor costs, timescales, and resources, taking action to resolve when deviating from agreed tolerances
  • Schedules, monitors, and reports on activities related to the portfolio in accordance with technology roadmap, driving change through the delivery framework
  • Ensures that the projects are managed to realise business benefits in support of project sponsor
  • Takes full responsibility for the project managers approach to quality, change control and risk management using the appropriate tools including the most appropriate governance model
  • Supports effective business change by building relationships with and between IT and business leads, thinks wider than the technology change being delivered
  • Uses quality standards to review past performance and plan future activities
  • Effective stakeholder- management through facilitating open communication and discussion
  • Coaches and oversees development of project managers
  • Seek to improve the Project delivery process working with senior IT stakeholders and PMO

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience required:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Formal Project/Programme Management qualification or certification (APM, PMI, Prince II, MSP etc.)
  • Demonstration of continued professional development
  • Delivery of challenging business system change projects in complex and demanding environments
  • Point of escalation for project challenges and issues, assessing impacts to all aspects of the project thoroughly and proactively seeking resolutions
  • Managing and developing IT Project Managers
  • Building of project definition, working with stakeholders to build a business case
  • Managing supplier project engagements, from tender through to delivery and handing over to ongoing support
  • Effective communicator, confident engaging with all levels of business and across all methods of communication
  • Confident reporting to senior business leaders through project and portfolio boards
  • Line management with coaching style for project managers and oversight of contract personnel
  • Broad understanding of all aspects of IT solution delivery
  • Takes responsibility for supporting project managers in project delivery
  • Demonstrates a strong delivery focus, with focus on removing blockers quickly
  • Pragmatic and flexible in ways of working
  • Seeks to improve the status quo
  • Positive team player, capable of exploiting the strengths of individual team members, empowering, and building high performing teams
  • Skilled at using Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office suite

Measures of Success:

  • Strong relationships with IT and business stakeholders
  • Proven track record of successful project delivery aligned to the priorities of the business area
  • Giving appropriate support to direct reports, which leads to them successfully delivering their projects with a sense of pride
  • Strong alignment to and track record of improvement against the delivery KPIs

Location:

This is a predominately remote working role. However, there will be requirements to travel to one of the clients other sites from time to time in either London, Ipswich, Northampton or Selby

Working hours:

Standard working hours with some flex where required.
