Overview
The Senior Infrastructure Architect is responsible for the project level architecture design for TFL's infrastructure developments. The Sr Infrastructure Architect will communicate the proposed infrastructure architecture within the project and gain project approval from the project manager, business analyst, development solution architecture, and test teams.
They will ensure that the project level infrastructure architecture implemented meets the business objectives and technical requirements.
Responsibilities
- Define and implement the infrastructure standards, principles & common building blocks in relation with technology development and industry best practices
- Responsible for creating infrastructure architecture proposals, high and low level designs
- Given a set of business requirements create an Infrastructure design which meets the requirements and is in line with Technology Development Infrastructure roadmaps. Specific business non functional requirements will include performance, security, reliability and availability of service
- Ensure that infrastructure solutions proposed by third parties suppliers meet TFL business and technical requirements and TFL strategies.
- Analyse the current technology environment to detect critical deficiencies in the infrastructure and recommend solutions for improvement
- Ensure that project impacts on the infrastructure are identified, assessed, assured, and documented
- Develop and define future product roadmaps for the infrastructure according to industry trends and best practice
- Ensure that the capacity planning process for the key systems is manage efficiently. Approval of the capacity plans and, potentially, infrastructure purchases based on future capacity requirements
- Perform infrastructure audits on third party contractors. These will include asset management, disaster recovery and servicing of the infrastructure.
- Coach and advise the wider Technology teams on Infrastructure matters.
Knowledge
- Detailed knowledge of structured architecture frameworks such as TOGAF
- Detailed knowledge of hosting and infrastructure and end user computing architectures
- Detailed knowledge of IT service management frameworks such as ITIL
- Broad knowledge and understanding of planning and project management tools and techniques
Skills
- Strong infrastructure architecture skills in architecting technology components across software, infrastructure and networks.
- Ability to take a loose set of requirements and build a high level architecture using common standards. Refining the architecture as more information is discovered, decisions identified and choices are made.
- Proven ability to analyse complex components, identify decision points, draw conclusions and produce design artefact's
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people within the delivery team including project managers, business analysts, developers, and testers.
Experience
- Have a detailed understanding of IT systems with specific experience of designing infrastructure solutions in two of:
- Private Cloud Infrastructure - Compute, Storage, Network, Operating Systems and Databases
- Public Cloud - IaaS, PaaS and SaaS particularly with AWS and Azure
- Digital Workplace - O365, Virtual Desktop, Directory Services and Identity Management
- Infrastructure Management, Automation and Monitoring
- Excellent understanding of structured architecture frameworks such as TOGAF and experience of architecture design and governance best practice
