Morgan Hunt are working with the NSPCC in their search for a permanent Data Protection Team Manager to manage the Data Protection and Compliance Team, while overseeing Information Governance arrangements across the Charity.

As acting Data Protection Officer, you will provide advice across the Charity while ensuring the organisation remains compliant and meets its legal obligations in relation to information governance, in particular data protection and privacy. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining relevant policies and procedures, including the Data Privacy Impact Assessment policy, ROPA and procedures (while ensuring that all processing activity is recorded).

You will be responsible for managing the Data Protection and Compliance team, including monitoring the team's performance of subject access, disclosure, compliance advice and data breach reporting operations. You will ensure that systematic compliance audits are undertaken and that their findings are reported and acted upon, as well as assisting investigations into complaints regarding data breaches and other relevant data incidents while managing the relationship with the ICO.

The successful candidate will be an experienced Data Protection Professional, with a professional qualification such as the CIPP/E and CIPM; and the ability to understand, interpret and explain detailed legal provisions of national and European data protection laws, legislation and practices.

You will have experience managing a team and busy function, while ensuring the team meets SLAs. You will have an ability to give clear verbal and written explanations in an appropriate manner to organisational staff at all levels, members of the public and external third parties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Line manage the Data Protection and Compliance team, including monitoring the team's performance of subject access, disclosure, compliance advice and data breach reporting operations
  • Inform and advise the organisation, as the controller of personal data and as the processor of personal data on behalf of other controllers, and its employees of their obligations in relation to compliance with UK GDPR and other data protection or privacy laws
  • Monitor compliance with UK GDPR and other data protection and privacy laws, with the organisation's policies, including the assignment of responsibilities, awareness- raising and training of staff involved in the processing operations, and the related audits
  • Design, review and update policies and processes, in line with legislation, in relation to Data Protection, Privacy and Data and Information Governance
  • Develop and maintain the organisation's Data Privacy Impact Assessment policy, ROPA and procedures, ensuring that all processing activity is recorded
  • Assist with investigations into complaints about breaches of the UK GDPR and other data protection laws, and in particular the notification of personal data breaches to the ICO as required by Article 33 and ICO guidance

Person Specification

  • Relevant professional qualification such as the CIPP/E and CIPM, or equivalent experience
  • Ability to manage a team, set priorities, ensuring that data protection processes are followed and all timelines are met
  • Ability to understand, interpret and explain detailed legal provisions of national and European data protection laws and practices
  • Ability to apply and provide data protection legislation to the NSPCC's activities and to provide both pragmatic and strategic advice
  • An ability to liaise at all levels both with staff and with external parties and to build good working relationships with regular contacts
  • An ability to give clear verbal and written explanations in an appropriate manner to organisation staff at all levels, members of the public and external agencies.
