Service Desk, Service Administrator (SC Cleared)

We are seeking a technically proficient Systems Administrator to join a leading UK-based organisation. In this role, you will be responsible for the proactive and reactive management of IT infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and security. You will handle both scheduled and corrective maintenance tasks, troubleshoot complex issues, and ensure service delivery aligns with organisational needs while maintaining high customer satisfaction.

Rate: £375-425 per day Location: London - 5 Days a Week Onsite - South East

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert end-user support to analysts across diverse IT platforms, including hardware and software troubleshooting.
  • Manage user lifecycle processes such as account creation, role-based access control, permissions, and resource allocation using Active Directory or similar tools.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for application, database, and network issues, ensuring prompt resolution through collaboration with users, partners, and third-party vendors.
  • Perform system monitoring, data backups, patch management, and ensure uptime targets are met for critical infrastructure.
  • Administer security protocols, including certificate management, access control lists (ACLs), and multi-factor authentication (MFA) systems.
  • Install, configure, and deploy new hardware and software, performing detailed hardware assessments and troubleshooting to ensure compatibility and performance.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, incidents, and procedures, ensuring compliance with internal and external auditing standards.
  • Apply and enforce cyber security best practices in all systems, including threat mitigation, intrusion detection, and system hardening.

Key Skills:

  • Extensive experience in system and network administration within a multi-platform environment, specifically Windows Server, Linux distributions (RHEL, Ubuntu), and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Advanced understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN), firewalls, load balancing, and remote desktop technologies (RDP, Citrix).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues quickly and efficiently in a high-pressure environment.
  • Experience with PowerShell or Bash scripting for automation and systems management tasks.
  • Deep knowledge of security best practices, including securing network services, server hardening, patch management, and vulnerability scanning.
  • Hands-on experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, and user/group management in a Windows environment
