Design Technology Technician Opportunity

Do you have a Design Technology (DT) background and seeking a role in a great, independent secondary school as a DT Technician?

Tradewind Recruitment is working with an independent secondary school in Waltham Forest, East London, which has a vacancy for a Design Technology Technician. This position starts in November(subject to a successful trial day and interview) and runs for the full academic year.

Role: DT Technician

Salary: £14- 16 per hour

Hours: 8.15am - 4.00pm

The School: This is a lovely, independent secondary school in Waltham Forest. Behaviour at the school is excellent and they have a great team in place.

The school is easily accessible by public transport and a small car park for drivers is available.

Role Responsibilities: As a DT Technician, you will be supporting the DT department and facilitating outstanding learning experiences. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Assisting teachers with preparation and setup of DT projects and practical lessons.
  2. Managing and maintaining the DT workshop, equipment, and resources to ensure a safe and inspiring learning environment.
  3. Providing technical guidance and support to students during their design and construction processes.
  4. Organising and managing stock inventory, ordering new materials when necessary.
  5. Working with the DT department to devise engaging and hands-on activities that spark creativity and enthusiasm among students.

Requirements:

The school is very interested in meeting DT Technicians with secondary school experience and they will also consider candidates with previous experience in a related field, such as engineering, art etc.

You should have good experience with resistant materials, metalwork and woodwork.

The ideal candidate should possess:

Strong organisational skills and an eye for detail.

Experience of computer aided design(CAD)

A strong working knowledge of 3D printing systems, laser cutting

Experience of handling materials, including metals and woods

A passion for Design Technology and the design process, along with a desire to ignite a similar passion in learners.

The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Familiarity with the use and maintenance of DT tools and equipment.

A commitment to maintaining a safe and inspiring learning environment.

  • Ideally be a Design graduate or have previous experience of working within a school as a DT Technician
