Overview:

An excellent opportunity has arisen with my client, a leading Title Insurance firm for a highly experienced Legal Indemnities Underwriter to join as part of an ambitious growth plan.

The purpose of this role is to be a technical expert within the team, underwriting with confidence residential and commercial legal indemnity insurance and estate administration insurance within agreed authority levels and negotiating and maximising business profitability by means of effective underwriting decisions and techniques.

Duties include:

  • Collaborating with the underwriting team to ensure the highest level of service and technical expertise is provided to clients.
  • Assess risk and underwrite all insurance risks in accordance with the company’s guidelines.
  • To gather and assess appropriate information and record in a clear underwriting note/risk summary form on each file, evidencing reasons for recommending insurance and causes of concern.
  • Calculate competitive premiums which are reflective of the risk presented.
  • Work with Legal Indemnities Underwriting Director to ensure Insurer’s delegated authority requirements are met.
  • Provide technical underwriting support to the team, take suitable referrals and mentor the less experienced members of the team as and when necessary.
  • Managing delegated underwriting authority to approve own and junior team members cases within the Insurer’s guidelines.
  • Be a mentor and referral point for the junior members of the team including the technical aspects of risk referrals and audits.
  • To form and maintain professional and excellent working relationships with clients, including attending internal and external meeting and events where necessary.
  • Provide ideas and suggestions around the development of products, underwriting trends, and processes to improve and enhance our product offering, our service standards and to grow the business.

The successful candidate will have/be:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience underwriting legal indemnity insurance in a Senior Underwriter capacity
  • Can demonstrate a deep understanding of defective title insurance and other legal indemnities insurance products
  • Has an analytical and problem-solving mindset
  • Can demonstrate strong experience of collaborative working, acting decisively and building relationships with clients and internal team members
