Senior Motor Portfolio Underwriter:

Our Eastleigh based Underwriting team are looking to bring on board a fresh and dynamic Senior Underwriter to join their busy team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Motor Underwriter who will be working on our Broker Motor portfolio. The Senior Underwriting will be working closely with the Pricing and Distribution teams and will be supporting the development of new rating concepts as well as alternative trading models. Through this development they will be responsible for the implementation of new factors, managing our rate strength and strengthening our forward looking understanding of risk.

The Senior Motor Underwriting will be specialise in portfolio management, therefore strong numeracy and communication skills are an absolute must for this role to be able to gather, interpret and present segmentation information to numerous stakeholders internally and externally

Main Responsibilities as a Senior Motor Portfolio Underwriter:

  • To support the profitable growth of the Broker Private Car Portfolio through ongoing analytical review of our KPIs.
  • To review the underwriting acceptance rules and documentation and make underwriting changes/recommendations, as appropriate, to deliver profitable performance and optimise profitable growth.
  • To recommend new underwriting concepts, product covers and documentation by utilising market / legal / competitor analysis.
  • To support the Pricing team by recommending new enhancements or alterations to pricing or underwriting.
  • Take responsibility for our Underwriting Footprint and support our Strategy team in broadening our competitive footprint across the broker portfolio.
  • Key Liaison point with brokers, partners, external service providers and internal Sales, Claims and other management teams.

Skills and experience you need as a Senior Motor Portfolio Underwriter:

  • A sound understanding of underwriting and pricing principles and experience of a wide range of technical issues affecting the Personal Motor Insurance Market.
  • A very high degree of numeracy with a strong ability to analyse and interpret large quantities of data.
  • Excellent skills in explaining, both internally and externally to key business partners, the interpretation of policy wordings, underwriting decisions and the outcome of audits.
  • Ability to work with people at all levels, internally and externally.
  • Confident decision-maker who exhibits a willingness to take responsibility.
  • Ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines, managing multiple work streams and stakeholders.
