Marine Liability & Cargo Underwriting Technician - Europe/Americas/Asia-Pacific

Our client is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Underwriting Technician to join their dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone eager to develop their career in underwriting, providing technical and administrative support to underwriters while gradually gaining exposure to underwriting processes and responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate all regular underwriting documentation promptly and accurately.
  • Handle broker enquiries, liaising with team underwriters as required.
  • Maintain accurate and consistent data across underwriting systems.
  • Oversee renewal and detachment processes, ensuring efficiency.
  • Manage file administration and ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks.
  • Ensure underwriting procedures are adhered to and perform quality checks on completed work.
  • Assist with internal audits and Member/broker service visits and events as needed.
  • Provide training and mentoring to new team members, as agreed.
  • Review management information (MI) data and exception reports to ensure the accuracy of underwriting administration.
  • Coordinate credit control duties and assist in the efficient operation of the team.

Person Specification:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in bespoke systems, Microsoft Office, and particularly Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills with a focus on customer service.
  • An analytical mindset with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • The ability to adapt to changing priorities, work under pressure, and manage time effectively.
  • A collaborative team spirit, balanced with the ability to work independently.
  • An awareness of current regulatory and compliance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with insurance cover wordings and reinsurance programmes, as well as experience in underwriting, is an advantage but not essential.
