OCS provides our colleagues with opportunities to gain qualifications through funded development programmes aligned to the knowledge, skills, and behaviours attached to their roles.About The Role:Days of Working: Saturday and SundayAs a 'pick and pack' Catering Assistant, you will make sure menus are available that meet dietary needs and use picking sheets to gather the right items and portion sizes. You will pack these into insulated food trolleys and sign them off. The job involves a lot of physical effort, as you will be picking and packing for long periods. You will also fill ovens from the trolleys, cook meals following guidelines, and return unused items to the freezer. Finally, you will plate meals, checking that everything matches the patient's request and is nicely presented. It's a busy role that keeps you active and ensures patients get the right meals.As part of your role, your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure that relevant menus are available that consider dietary requirements, assessing the situation as required.
  • Use the picking sheet and ensure that all items, including the correct portion sizes are picked and placed into the insulated food trolleys and the trolley signed off as correctly packed.
  • Complete picking and packing - this can involve a requirement to exert moderate physical effort for long periods of the shift.
  • Fill oven from insulated food trolley, ensuring that only meals required for service or cooked, returning any other items back to the central freezer.
  • Use the regen oven to cook meals, ensuring cooking guidance followed, so that quality products are prepared for patients.
  • Plate meals, ensuring that the tray is checked against their request and all items are correct and appropriately presented.

The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:

  • Must have Right to Work in the UK
  • An enhanced DBS will be completed for the successful candidate.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Food Hygiene Certificate - not essential as training can be provided.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Health & Safety Training qualification.
  • Willing and able to work shifts (including nights, week days, weekends, Bank Holidays) on any of the Trust Sites.
  • Understanding of HACCP & COSHH.
