We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Data Science Engineer to join our forward-thinking, award-winning in-house software development team. The ideal candidate will have 8-10 years of commercial software development and data science experience, including Python, Scikit-learn, Terraform and SQL Server. We welcome candidates who are "T-Shaped" developers: someone with broad knowledge across our tech stack who is a specialist in a particular area, such as front end, back end, or infrastructure development. This role involves tackling complex problems, mentoring development teams, and driving adherence to development standards within a Scrum Agile Framework.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and support various components of the Davies UK&I IT estate
  • You will be parachuted into areas to tackle complex problems
  • Enforce adherence to SOLID Principles and OWASP security guidelines by ensuring that all engineers consistently apply these practices in their code, conducting regular code reviews, and providing training and resources to maintain high standards of code quality, security, and maintainability
  • Provide expert solutions to complex problems during critical times and lead in the design and development of high-quality applications utilising strategic technologies
  • You will be encouraged to experiment with new technologies and make new suggestions where applicable
  • You will liaise with 3rd party software providers throughout the lifecycle- including design, development, support and maintenance
  • Act as a role model and mentor to development teams, promoting self-management and maturity
  • Coach individual team members and full development teams
  • Assist in defining and enforcing development patterns and standards, working closely with our architects to develop frameworks
  • Develop micro-services, containerization, and site reliability engineering
  • Promote and guide an automated test-driven development approach
  • Work within a Scrum Agile Framework
