Salary: 50-75,000 + package

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Planning Engineer with a building background and experience working within a UK main contracting environment to join a renowned established consultancy based in Central London. The Planning Engineer will join an experienced team specialising in providing strategic advice and project management services for major projects across the building industry.

The Planning Engineer will be an integral part of the project delivery team, working on a variety of major construction projects across the building industry. They will be responsible for developing, managing, and monitoring detailed project programmes, ensuring that all key milestones are met and providing solutions to overcome any potential delays. This role requires strong construction experience, as well as expertise in planning and scheduling using industry-standard tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage detailed project programmes, including critical path analysis and resource planning.
  • Monitor and update project schedules, tracking progress and identifying risks to time-sensitive milestones.
  • Liaise with project teams, clients, and contractors to ensure alignment of planning strategies with project objectives.
  • Provide regular progress reports and updates to key stakeholders, highlighting potential delays and recommending solutions.
  • Conduct schedule risk analysis to mitigate project delays and ensure timely delivery.
  • Assist with claims related to time and delays by providing accurate programme information and supporting documentation.
  • Work closely with project managers, quantity surveyors, and site teams to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and effectively.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Planning Engineer within the construction industry, ideally with a consultancy or contractor.
  • Proficiency in planning software such as Primavera P6, Asta Powerproject, and MS Project.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, and building industry practices.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex construction programmes.
  • Familiarity with standard construction contracts (e.g., NEC, JCT, FIDIC) and their implications on project scheduling.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (professional qualifications such as APM, PMP, or PMI are advantageous).
