Childcare Lawyer

London Borough Council
Rate: 50-60 per hour - Negotiable DOE
Contract: 3-6 months initially

Spencer Clarke Group are working with a London Borough Council who are seeking an experienced Childcare Lawyer to join their Children's Social Care team on an initial 3-6-month contract. The successful candidate will be experienced in dealing with a variety of Childcare matters, working on behalf of a local authority.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of complex public childcare matters and give expert advice to the Children's Social Care department.
  • Advising upon and conducting proceedings relating to the care and protection of children and young people.
  • Providing legal advice and support to clients, including elected members and senior officers.
  • Represent the council at Family court when necessary.

Key Requirements:

  • To be a Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of CILEX with degree level qualification (or equivalent), or to have substantial demonstrable experience.
  • You will be able to demonstrate experience of dealing with Childcare legal work including emergency applications, care proceedings, adoption and Inherent Jurisdiction.
  • You will be able to conduct your caseload with minimum supervision and will be accustomed to working at pace in a busy team.
  • Experience of conducting advocacy and judicial reviews will be an advantage.
