Venn Group’s public sector legal team is working with a Local Authority in London who are seeking an experienced Civil Litigation Lawyer to join their team on a locum basis. This is a fantastic opportunity as it covers a broad spectrum of litigation matters and allows the opportunity to grow and develop.

Job Overview:This London Borough is seeking an experienced and versatile Civil Litigation Lawyer to join the team. This broad role offers a mix of responsibilities, including significant housing work, adult social care (ASC) debt recovery, and overall general civil litigation matters. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing a variety of legal issues while providing expert advice and representation for the council.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a diverse caseload of civil litigation matters, with a focus on housing and ASC debt recovery.
  • Provide legal advice and representation in court, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policies.
  • Draft and review legal documents, including court pleadings, notices, and other legal correspondence.
  • Support the council in resolving disputes through negotiation, settlement, or litigation as necessary.
  • Attend court as required for hearings and trials, with the flexibility for ad-hoc attendance.
  • Work closely with senior legal and council officers to develop strategic approaches to litigation matters.

Requirements:

  • Qualified solicitor, barrister or FILEx Legal Executive with relevant experience in civil litigation.
  • Strong background in housing law and ASC debt recovery is desirable.
  • Ability to manage a varied and high-volume caseload effectively.
  • Experience in preparing legal documents and representing clients in court.
  • A proactive approach with strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
