Venn Group’s public sector legal team is working with a Local Authority in theSouth East, who are in urgent need of an experienced Contracts and Procurement Lawyer to join their team on a locum basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a forward thinking local authority while benefiting from a fully remote working arrangement.

Job Overview:

This South East Local Authority is seeking an experienced Contracts and Procurement Lawyer to assist with housing and construction-related contracts. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing, updating, and advising on ALMO housing contracts, JCT contracts, and procurement agreements in line with the latest procurement regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate ALMO housing contracts and JCT construction contracts.
  • Provide legal advice on procurement law compliance, ensuring all contracts align with the new procurement guidelines.
  • Support the council in updating existing contracts in line with legislative changes and best practice.
  • Handle complex contract negotiations and resolve procurement-related disputes.
  • Help the Council to prepare for upcoming Devolution challenges

Requirements:

  • Qualified solicitor, barrister, or FILEx Legal Executive with relevant experience in contracts and procurement law.
  • Strong knowledge of public sector contracts, particularly in housing and construction (JCT).
  • Experience advising on public procurement regulations and ensuring compliance.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a part-time workload efficiently.
  • A proactive and commercial approach with excellent drafting and negotiation skills.

While experience in all areas is desirable, candidates with transferable skills and a willingness to develop in local government procurement law are encouraged to apply.
