A rare opportunity for a senior regulatory or litigation lawyer to join one of the UK's biggest sporting organisations.
Our client, a household name in the sports industry, is looking to secure a Head of Legal with experience in litigation, regulatory investigations and enforcement proceedings. This is a newly created permanent role in a growing and dynamic Regulatory team.
This role has arisen due to the continuously evolving nature of financial regulations in the sport, and the need to manage all aspects of these rules to maintain a fair and robust competition. Our client is based in London with hybrid work arrangements on offer. It is a fast-paced and dynamic work environment and the ideal candidate will be able to manage demanding time frames and a variety of stakeholders.
About the role
Joining a team of 10 lawyers, the Head of Legal will co-lead the team with a number of direct reports. You will provide legal advice to the wider business and external stakeholders on a range of areas including enforcement of financial regulations, Owners' and Directors' compliance and the impact of an independent regulator of the sport.
There will be the opportunity to assist in drafting rule changes and providing advice to clubs with respect to the interpretation of these rules and regulations. The Head of Legal will manage disputes with clubs and third parties, and be responsible for maintaining relationships with external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and attributes:
- England and Wales qualified lawyer with over 8 years of post-qualification experience (desired PQE, however this is supplied as a guide and all candidates will be considered on merit).
- Experience gained in a reputable firm and/or in a sport competition/league, governing body, or rights holder environment.
- Specialism in financial disputes, investigations or regulatory enforcement. Candidates with white collar crime or fraud experience are also encouraged to apply.

- Ability to demonstrate drive, enthusiasm, and pro-active ownership of tasks and projects through to completion.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong attention to detail.
- Effectively manage time and competing demands, escalating and delegating work where appropriate.
