Morgan Hunt are currently working with one of the UK's Royal Colleges in their search for a temporary Legal Officer (Employment) to deliver legal advice as well as support in Employment Tribunal proceedings.

You will use your positive attitude, your knowledge of employment law and your ability to deliver legal advice to internal staff and Members, as well as support and provide representation to members in Employment Tribunal proceedings.

The successful candidate will be a Qualified Barrister, Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with expert knowledge and post-graduate experience in Employment Law (ideally within the Regulatory, Membership or Trade Union Sectors).

You will have experience managing a large caseload, with the ability to advise and represent members on all aspects of employment law. You will have the ability to draft legal proceedings and other documents, alongside excellent communication, written and presentation skills.

Job Title: Legal Officer (Employment)

Location: Hybrid Working (Once per week in the London OR National Offices)

Hourly Rate: £39.00 - £40.00 (Umbrella)

Job Type: Temporary (3 monthly, likely extension)

Hours: Full-time

Start Date: ASAP

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and representation to members in employment law proceedings, including in relation to Professional Misconduct
  • Undertake advocacy where applicable, and instruct advocates in respect of regulatory proceedings
  • Manage a caseload while working with the Regulatory Law team and wider legal department
  • Refer cases of members charged with criminal offences to private agent solicitors and to manage those files appropriately
  • Advise and support members, officers and stewards on all issues of regulatory law relating to the healthcare sector
  • Ensure the delivery of quality and cost effective legal services to members while demonstrating efficient use of resources
  • Responsible for keeping up-to-date developing practises in accordance with the requirements of relevant regulatory bodies

Person Specification

  • Qualified Barrister, Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive
  • Expert knowledge of employment law, and relevant post graduate qualification experience in employment law
  • Experience of managing a large case load with supervision and taking direction accordingly
  • Ability to advise and represent members on all aspects of employment law
  • Ability to work and make decisions under supervision taking ownership of when to escalate
  • Excellent communication, written and presentation skills
  • Ability to maintain the highest professional standards whilst working within tight timescales
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work to deadlines
  • Ability to draft legal pleadings and other documents
  • Ability to manage conflict and retain a positive outlook
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, internet and diary software to an intermediate level
