Venn Group’s public sector legal team is working with a Local Authority in the South East, who are in urgent need of an experienced Senior Adult Social Care Lawyer to join their team on a locum basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a progressive local authority while benefiting from a fully remote working arrangement.

Job Overview:

This South East Local Authority is seeking an experienced Adult Social Care Lawyer to handle a complex caseload relating to key adult social care matters. The successful candidate will be required to provide high-level legal advice, undertake advocacy, and support the council in ensuring compliance with adult social care legislation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist legal advice on all aspects of adult social care law, including inquests, age assessment cases, and judicial reviews
  • Represent the council in court proceedings and tribunals, undertaking advocacy where required
  • Support and advise on complex safeguarding matters, mental capacity issues, and deprivation of liberty cases
  • Manage a varied caseload and work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Draft legal documents and policies in compliance with the latest legislation and best practice

Requirements:

  • Qualified solicitor, barrister, or FILEx Legal Executive with relevant experience in adult social care law
  • Strong working knowledge of key adult social care legislation, including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Human Rights Act 1998
  • Experience handling inquests, judicial review matters, and age assessment cases
  • Willingness and ability to undertake advocacy
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote role with minimal supervision

While experience in all areas is desirable, candidates with transferable skills and a willingness to develop in local government adult social care law are encouraged to apply.
