Venn Group’s public sector legal team is working with a London Borough seeking an experienced Senior Contracts and Procurement Lawyer to provide specialist legal support on commercial, procurement, and contractual matters. This is a leadership role, supporting the Chief Contracts Lawyer in overseeing complex cases and managing legal professionals within the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Principal Contracts Lawyer in coordinating and delivering legal support on contracts, procurement, economic regeneration, and commercial transactions.
  • Manage a Junior Contracts Lawyer, providing supervision, support, and delegating work while ensuring high standards of service.
  • Handle a caseload of complex contract matters, including drafting, negotiation, and providing legal advice on commercial agreements and procurement projects.
  • Advise on contract claims and disputes, including issues arising from building contracts and procurement-related matters.
  • Prepare and review reports for Council committees and senior decision-makers, attend meetings as required, and ensure legal compliance in the implementation of council decisions.

Requirements:

  • Qualified solicitor, barrister, or FILEx Legal Executive with strong experience in contracts, procurement, and commercial law.
  • Proven ability to manage a caseload of high-value and complex contract matters, including drafting and negotiation of procurement and commercial agreements.
  • Experience supervising junior legal professionals and delegating legal work.
  • Strong knowledge of public procurement law, contract regulations, and governance processes.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with experience advising senior officers and councillors.
