Role Overview:

As a Risk Manager within the housing sector, you will play a key role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across the organization. You will work closely with senior management, operational teams, and external partners to develop risk management strategies that ensure compliance with regulations, protect assets, and safeguard our tenants and staff. Your role will be critical in creating a risk-aware culture and implementing best practices to minimize exposure to risks in a dynamic housing environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Risk Identification & Assessment: Proactively identify, assess, and evaluate risks across all areas of the business, including financial, operational, compliance, and reputational risks.
  • Risk Mitigation: Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks, including the creation of risk management policies and procedures to reduce potential threats to the organization.
  • Compliance: Ensure the organization complies with relevant housing regulations, industry standards, and health and safety laws, minimizing legal or regulatory risks.
  • Reporting & Monitoring: Monitor and report on risk management activities, preparing regular risk assessments and reports for senior management, board members, and regulatory bodies.
  • Training & Awareness: Promote risk awareness across the organization by delivering training sessions and creating educational materials to ensure all employees understand their role in risk management.
  • Crisis Management: Lead the development and implementation of crisis management plans and ensure the organization is prepared to handle emergencies, including health and safety incidents, operational disruptions, and financial crises.
  • External Partnerships: Work with external auditors, consultants, and regulatory bodies to assess risks and ensure best practices are adhered to across the organization.
  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously evaluate risk management practices, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing proactive measures to strengthen risk management frameworks.
Key Requirements:
  • Experience: Proven experience in risk management, preferably within the housing, property management, or public sector industries.
  • Risk Management Knowledge: Strong understanding of risk management principles, including risk assessment, mitigation strategies, and crisis management.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with housing regulations, health and safety standards, and industry compliance requirements.
  • Analytical Skills: Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to assess complex situations and develop practical solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex information to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence others to adopt a risk-aware culture across the organization.
  • Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in risk management, business, law, or a related field (e.g., IRM, ISO 31000 certification) would be highly desirable.
  • IT Skills: Proficiency with risk management software and standard office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
