Inclusion Mentor

Salary: £24k-£25k actual

Hours of work: Monday to Friday 08.00 17.00

Terms: Permanent, term time only

The Inclusion Mentor is a member of the inclusion team who works under the direction of the Inclusion Manager. They support identified students, including those with social, emotional and/or mental health needs, those with English as an additional language and those identified with SEND, with a combination of planned academic and personal development activities. These could include one-to-one mentoring, group work supporting in lessons. Inclusion mentors actively model and deploy the Trauma Informed principles in their work with students. Inclusion mentors manage the daily internal exclusion process under the direction of the Inclusion Manager and members of SLT.

Duties/Responsibilities

To provide daily supervision for those students on internal exclusion. Maintaining a calm and purposeful environment in line with the principles of the MBS Trauma Informed approach, supporting students in completing their academic work and facilitating the collection of student statements as required.

Provide one-to-one mentoring to students as part of the internal exclusion process and supporting them in restorative meetings.

To provide support within classes, as required, to support the progress of students.

Be responsible for delivering timetabled one-to-one mentoring and/or group work on a weekly basis.

To provide administrative support as requested by relevant line managers with responsibility for inclusion. This could include, but is not limited to: processing students on internal exclusion, processing central daily detention lists and contacting parents, producing student appointment slips for inclusion meetings.

Being proactive in responding to the needs of students and working with the Inclusion Manager to source new opportunities to support the MBS community.

To develop and maintain a thorough knowledge and appreciation of the range of services, activities, courses, opportunities, organisations and individuals that could be drawn upon to provide extra support for pupils and to provide that information to pupils and parents/carers where appropriate.

Person Specification:

Graduate Level qualification Or Degree subject in secondary Ebacc subject

Experience working with children with specific social and emotional needs.

Experience working with speech, language and communication needs.

Experience of the demands of the English school system ie GCSE and A Level examinations or equipment.

Awareness of policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, equal opportunities and confidentiality.

Ability to contribute to a range of teaching, learning and pastoral activities Awareness of the Trauma Informed approach to inclusion.

Ability to plan, monitor and assess
