Job Title: Engineering Shift Supervisor
Location: Central London
Employment Type: Full-Time, Shift-Based (2 Days, 2 Nights, 4 off)
Role Overview
As the Engineering Shift Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising the day-to-day engineering operations and maintenance activities on-site, ensuring uninterrupted service to our critical infrastructure. You will manage a team of skilled engineers and technicians on shift, overseeing their work to ensure compliance with safety and operational protocols. HV experience or HV qualification is essential, as you'll be responsible for high-voltage equipment operations, maintenance, and emergency response.
Key Responsibilities
1. Shift Supervision and Team Leadership
- Supervise a team of engineers and technicians on shift, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, operational standards, and company policies.
- Coordinate shift activities, assign tasks, and monitor progress to ensure all work is completed to a high standard and within time constraints.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical support to team members, promoting a strong safety culture and operational excellence.
2. High-Voltage (HV) System Management
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and safety compliance of high-voltage systems on-site, including switching, isolation, and restoration as required.
- Conduct HV switching operations, ensuring all work is performed according to regulatory standards and company procedures.
- Troubleshoot and resolve HV-related issues in a timely and effective manner, minimising impact on facility operations.
3. Maintenance and Operations Oversight
- Monitor, inspect, and carry out routine and reactive maintenance on building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems.
- Implement and maintain preventive maintenance schedules, ensuring equipment reliability and minimising downtime.
- Conduct fault-finding and diagnostic work on critical systems, escalating issues as necessary to maintain operational continuity.
4. Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Ensure that all team activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations, with a particular focus on HV safety standards.
- Conduct safety briefings and toolbox talks, promoting awareness of high-risk areas and safe work practices.
- Participate in incident investigations, ensuring accurate reporting and implementing corrective actions where necessary.
5. Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain detailed records of all maintenance, repairs, and HV switching activities, ensuring accurate and timely completion of work orders.
- Generate shift handover reports, ensuring effective communication between shift teams and continuity of operations.
- Provide regular updates to the Facilities Manager on shift activities, equipment performance, and any critical issues.
Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: Proven experience in facilities management, building services, or a similar engineering role, ideally within a critical environment.
- HV Qualification: High-voltage qualification or certification is essential (e.g., HV Authorised Person), with experience in HV switching and maintenance.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of building systems, including HVAC, electrical distribution, and life safety systems.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated experience supervising a team, with strong organisational and communication skills.
- Problem-Solving: Proactive approach to troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, especially in high-pressure situations.
- Health and Safety: Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to facilities management, with a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
