We are currently seeking a talented Billing Coordinator for our client, an award-winning multidisciplinary law firm with an outstanding reputation.

In this role, you will be working alongside the Finance Team and assisting fee earners across the firm. Your focus will be on supporting the billing and costs team, ensuring timely progression of matters, and contributing to monthly billing meetings with all fee earners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend monthly billing meetings with fee earners to review Work in Progress (WIP), progress on current files, and manage housekeeping tasks such as:

    • Time transfers

    • Rate changes

    • WIP write-offs

    • Billing write-offs

    • File closures

    • Disbursement transfers or write-offs

  • Amend client records as needed

  • Assess fees received versus targets with each fee earner

  • Ensure tasks arising from billing meetings are promptly addressed, including troubleshooting

  • Draft and process payments on account for profit costs and disbursements via CCMS (where required)

  • Post weekly bills after receiving remittance from the LAA, accurately allocating costs to fee earners and applying appropriate timelines and disbursements

  • Correspond with external cost draftsmen to ensure files are progressing smoothly, keeping fee earners updated

  • Assist fee earners with billing-related queries

  • Support billing coordinators with complex and technical issues

  • Help the Finance Manager resolve queries and address historic issues

  • Provide training to billing coordinators on both civil and criminal billing aspects

  • Share your knowledge to enhance the team's efficiency and expertise

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

  • A solid understanding of Legal Aid, Legal Help, and other systems of public legal funding in both criminal and civil sectors

  • ALCD or AAT qualification is desirable but not essential

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Confident, with strong influencing and negotiating skills

  • Highly organised and efficient

  • Strong initiative and problem-solving ability

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

  • Meticulous attention to detail

  • High degree of numeracy and strong IT skills
