AJ Chambers are working closely with a City Law Firm who are looking for an experienced Paralegal to join the Residential team to work closely with the Partners and Associates.
Their clients come from a wide range of sectors, both in the UK and internationally, and include some of the most well-established owner-managed businesses and property companies as well as fast-growing entrepreneurial enterprises and ultra-high net worth families.
The department:
The Residential team is based in London and consists of four Partners and seven Fee Earners. The Residential team acts for domestic and international Ultra High Net Worth individuals, families and companies looking to invest in high-end property in prime locations in the UK.
Summary of role:
You will work very closely with the Partners and Fee earners in the team, working in tandem with the Senior Paralegal to deliver a high quality service to the team and to its clients. This is a busy role managing work and matters for multiple fee earners at any one time.
Responsibilities:
Property Fee Earning
• Carrying out online property searches through our search provider
• Obtaining OCE's (Office Copy Entries) and other title documents through the Land Registry Portal
• Dealing with the Land Registry Online Portal - registrations, applications, and searches
• Preparation of legal documents including:
• OYEZ forms (property information form, leasehold information and fittings and contents form)
• Drafting residential contracts of sale using precedents
• Dealing with notices of transfer and charge, share certificates, stock transfer forms, deeds of covenant and any other post completion requirements normally required on a residential property transaction.
• Requesting management packs for leasehold properties at the instruction and supervision of the fee earner as required
• Preparation of documents and reports based on existing precedents, including annexures and plans for engrossing.
• Completing and submitting stamp duty land tax forms online
• Preparing financial statements by using Excel sheets
• Dealing with lender enquiries and refinances
• Post completion administration and preparation for file closure
• Taking responsibility for post completion work and closing files.
• Regularly and accurately maintain and update correspondence and filing.
Legal Administration
• Opening new client files, including completing conflict searches, preparing AML documentation, and obtaining relevant documentation from clients. Providing fee earners with regular updates/lists on any outstanding AML pending from the client which is delaying file opening.
• Preparation of client engagement letters (using the precedent); collating all the relevant information required and maintaining client files on a day-to-day basis.
Administrative
• Taking internal and external telephone queries, responding as appropriate
• Managing production of documents, coordinating changes, and ensuring consistency including formatting, numbering, cross-referencing, etc
• Drafting correspondence, producing documents, letters, and emails
• Maintaining up-to-date contact details in Interaction
• Aiding others in the department as required.
Skills & Experience
• Completed a legal qualification (LLB or GDL)
• LPC or SQE advantageous
• Experience within a busy Residential Property department is preferable.
• Have a strong interest in Property Law
• Excellent communication and team skills
• Exceptional organisational skills
