An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Patent Paralegal to join a highly regarded IP firm based in London.

The Role:

  • This position focuses on European patent grant and validation procedures
  • While prior experience in this area is preferred, comprehensive training will be provided to candidates with a background in other aspects of patent law
  • This role also offers scope for professional development, with opportunities to take on additional responsibilities as you grow in your career

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing R.71(3) responses, including obtaining and checking claims translations, preparing responses and billing clients
  • Reporting decisions to grant and obtaining client instructions for validations
  • Preparing and filing Powers of Attorney
  • Coordinating the validation of European patents, both directly and via local attorneys
  • Handling the reporting of opposition proceedings and certificate grants
  • Processing incoming communications, including emails and physical post
  • Managing diaries and monitoring deadlines
  • Recording assignments and name changes at the EPO and within validation states
  • Providing general paralegal support to clients, attorneys and other team members

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in patents and designs (not necessarily EP/GB-specific)
  • Excellent attention to detail, written communication and numeracy skills
  • CIPA Administrators Certificate (advantageous but not essential)
  • Familiarity with online filing and e-billing systems is desirable
  • Experience in a client-facing role is beneficial
