School Learning Resource Centre  - Librarian
  • Hourly pay circa £15.00 per hour 
  • 35 hours per week 
  • Location: Tower Hamlets 
  • Job Type: Full-time - Term Time Only (Plus 2 weeks)

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced School Librarian to manage our school’s library services, supporting and enriching teaching and learning across the school. The Librarian will play a pivotal role in promoting literacy, reading for pleasure, and independent learning, as well as contributing to our whole school focus on reading and literacy.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Develop and implement library policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with data protection, copyright, and health and safety legislation.
  • Coach and mentor students, fostering a culture of reading for pleasure and developing their information literacy and learning skills.
  • Engage in home-school liaison projects to support family learning and parental engagement in children’s learning.
  • Produce regular reports and publications to keep the school community informed about library and literacy developments.
  • Manage the acquisition, organisation, dissemination, and maintenance of a broad range of learning resources.
  • Collaborate with staff to promote effective use of the library across the curriculum and manage a study environment conducive to learning.
  • Control library stock and resources, managing the library budget, and maintaining records of books on loan.
  • Potentially manage an assistant Librarian and contribute to the development of reading initiatives and policies.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience in library management or a similar role, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of library systems and resource management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to develop and implement library policies and procedures.
  • Competence in managing budgets and resources.
  • First aid training is desirable.
  • Commitment to promoting literacy and a passion for reading.
An Enhanced DBS Certificate will be required for this role.
