Our client, a specialist education library providing books and resources to schools, is seeking a Schools Library Services Librarian to join their team. If you have a love for children literature, a commitment to equality, and experience working with schools or children, we want to hear from you!

In this role, you will have the opportunity to support schools by managing and promoting the school library and teacher resources. You will also work closely with teaching staff to identify and acquire quality resources for the school library and classroom libraries. Your expertise will be crucial in delivering information skills and supporting children learning within the school.

Responsibilities:

The schools library services is a specialist education library providing books and classroom resources to schools and the services of part-time librarians to schools to manage the school's own library.

  • Develop and promote the role of the library in the school, with an active engagement in diversity and equality issues.
  • Work with teaching staff to plan and deliver the information skills curriculum, fostering a culture of reading enjoyment.
  • Manage the school library and library resources, ensuring their effective and efficient use.
  • Select, acquire, maintain, and manage library stock, with a focus on active engagement in diversity and equality issues.
  • Develop links with secondary schools to facilitate a seamless transition and a consistent library skills approach.
  • Utilise the Schools Library Service and other sources of information and support to benefit the school.
  • Organise events and activities to encourage reading and enjoyment of literature, involving children and teaching staff in planning.
  • Keep the headteacher, school governors, and parents informed about the needs and development of the library and information service.

Requirements:

  • Excellent knowledge of equalities issues in library services provision.
  • Familiarity with children literature and a passion for promoting reading for pleasure.
  • Understanding of library and information skills.
  • Knowledge of educational issues and the National Curriculum.
  • Substantial library experience, preferably with experience in schools or working with children.
  • Experience in delivering training or teaching sessions.
  • IT literacy and willingness to learn and utilise library management systems and other software.
