Assistant Design Manager

Location: Brent Cross, London
Salary: Up to £50,000 + Package

Company Overview: Join a leading Tier 1 Main Contractor with a group turnover of £2 billion. Be a part of one of London’s largest regeneration schemes, spanning a 10-year program. Our project involves the construction of three new-build residential RC frame blocks, each up to 12 storeys, with a total of 286 units. Role Overview: We are seeking an Assistant Design Manager to support the Design Manager on-site in North London. This role involves managing and delivering all design aspects of the project, ensuring alignment with project requirements and facilitating the smooth progression of the design process.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing the development and delivery of all design aspects of a project or tender.
  • Understand the design management process and proactively contribute to the design development to meet project requirements.
  • Manage the design process, including the setup of systems and tools to monitor design progress.
  • Produce detailed Design Responsibility Matrix to ensure a clear division between consultant and subcontractor design responsibilities.
  • Assist in developing the design and procurement program, including subcontractor lead times.
  • Develop the Information Required Schedule, specifying deliverables and design release dates.
  • Manage all design meetings and produce an open items list to resolve identified issues.
  • Provide input into the procurement process, including defining the scope of work and subcontractor design deliverables.
  • Ensure subcontractor design compliance with project scope.
  • Review and status all design information for compliance with Employer’s Requirements (ERs), buildability, coordination, cost control, and change control.
  • Manage design change control, identifying and resisting design creep through hidden consultant and subcontractor changes.
  • Oversee Quality Control of design, including samples and technical submissions, ensuring acceptance in line with ERs.
  • Ensure design meets Planning and Building Control requirements.
  • Record, monitor, and report progress on all design management activities.

Key Experience Required:

  • Experience with a Main Contractor or Developer on residential or commercial projects.
  • On-site delivery experience.
  • Experience with RC Frame new builds.
