Engineering Manager – Structural Engineering (Infrastructure)
Location: London and surrounding areas (projects within the M25) | Head Office: Harrow (1 day per week)
Salary: Up to £85,000 + bonus + mileage
We’re working with our client to recruit an experienced Engineering Manager with a solid background in structural engineering and large infrastructure projects. The role is well suited to someone who’s worked with Tier 1 main contractors on big government or transport projects — things like HS2, airport works at Gatwick, or similar.
You’ll support site teams, helping them get ahead of any engineering issues and making sure designs and temporary works are properly checked and followed. You’ll also keep quality processes on track, while working closely with clients and making sure our engineering approach is clear and well explained.
The role will involve visiting sites around London and the M25 when needed so being based somewhere with easy access to the M25 is ideal.
Role responsibilities:
- Taking the lead on engineering matters across multiple infrastructure jobs.
- Making sure structural and temporary works designs are properly reviewed and in line with procedures.
- Supporting site teams with technical advice and helping solve problems early.
- Overseeing engineering plans and quality systems to make sure they’re being followed.
- Reviewing site and tender proposals, keeping an eye on changes and their potential impact.
- Looking for ways to make delivery more efficient without compromising on quality.
- Managing and mentoring engineers, helping them develop and ensuring teams are set up in the right way for each project.
Ideal candidate:
- Chartered Engineer (ICE, IStructE or equivalent).
- Strong structural engineering background.
- Experience working for Tier 1 main contractors on major infrastructure projects (HS2, airports, large public sector jobs).
- Comfortable dealing with site teams, clients and senior project managers.
- Confident speaking up and giving clear engineering advice, even if that means challenging the team’s initial thinking.
- Happy to travel to sites around London and the M25 on a regular basis.
On offer:
- Salary up to £85,000.
- Discretionary bonus.
- Mileage allowance.
- A varied role working on large, interesting infrastructure projects.
- The chance to help shape and guide engineering teams as they grow.
