The purpose of this role is to lead the development and delivery of the global new product strategy and 3-year NPD plans for Holland & Barrett's own brand product range in line with the business and category strategy for non-food products. This role sits within the Group Product function and works closely with our product integrity, science, and commercial functions.

You will drive business performance by enhancing the range quality and value perception of our own brand products globally. This role is instrumental in creating customer products and propositions that provide a continuous pipeline of unique and innovative health and wellness solutions across different categories

The Role:

The Purpose of the Role:   

  • Strategy Development: Drive the total H&B non-food brand strategy for all existing and emerging categories.
  • Innovation: Translate consumer trends and market insights into product innovation strategies and rolling 3-5 year NPD plans for the total H&B branded food range.
  • Financial Targets: Deliver the financial targets for the NPD pipeline and achieve the target customer metrics (adoption and retention).
  • Cross-Category Leadership: Lead and work across multiple product categories and projects alongside your commercial and non-food counterparts to enhance the H&B Brand with support from your product development team.
  • Brand Integrity: Ensure all product development aligns with Holland & Barrett's brand purpose and promise.
  • Packaging Design: Work with the internal design studio to deliver best-in-class packaging designs that adhere to our company's brand visual identity.
  • Product Propositions: Develop globally compelling differentiated product propositions based on strong consumer insight, competitor, and market knowledge to drive long-term value.
  • Project Management: Lead cross-functional teams to deliver each development from initial concept to finished product, optimizing all aspects of the customer proposition from product format to claims, including sourcing new suppliers and onboarding.
  • Timely Delivery: Ensure all new products are delivered on time and within agreed budgets.
  • Total Product Catalogue: Support the wider product team to drive forward and align on the total product catalogue, maximizing all cross-category opportunities to continue driving the H&B brand forward. This may include mentoring other product developers.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously improve the new product development process to optimize efficiencies and lead first-to-market development.
  • Framework Setting: Work hand in hand with the Director of NPD and our nutrition and science team to set evolving frameworks that reflect the latest health landscape, ensuring H&B branded products are relevant and efficacious using the latest ingredients.

Location: This role can be based either in London or Nuneaton, and is required to travel between hubs and occasionally to any other location of H&B. We support flexibility and productivity of our employees by hybrid working arrangements with minimum 2 days presence in the offices.

The Person:

Key Requirements

  • Extensive relevant retail/FMCG brand/product development experience within non-food categories.
  • A self-starter, comfortable leading multiple projects and implementing new processes.
  • Ability to engage and lead at any level, including large groups of senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and line manage a team, substantial experience of leading a team of minimum 4 people
  • Experience leading large-scale NPD projects from concept to launch, delivering step-changing commercial results.
  • Experienced in developing brand positioning, innovation strategies, three-year product plans, and concepts.
  • Track record of developing compelling, strong-selling products.
  • Track record of implementing new business processes, creative thinking, and supplier ways of working.
