Mechanical Engineer - contract

Location: White City, London

The Role

We have a vacancy for a Mechanical Engineer in our Engineering team in London. The Mechanical Engineer will contribute to the development of a commercial, integrated diagnostic device and research novel technological solutions to challenging problems. The candidate will be a creative individual with strong engineering fundamentals who is comfortable contributing to multi-disciplinary teams of scientists and engineers to solve challenging problems.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and manage own engineering development projects autonomously and independently.
  • Support the migration of 3rd party CAD data into the company's PDM system in compliance with ISO13485 standards.
  • Devise and apply novel design methodologies to solve complex problems based on sound engineering fundamentals.
  • Conceptualise, design, and test prototype components, systems, and processes to meet product requirements.
  • Produce detailed CAD models of mechanical parts, assemblies, and output BOMs and manufacturing drawings in compliance with GD&T standards BS8888.
  • Design, plan, and conduct laboratory experiments to understand and optimise parameters for cartridge-based biochemistry test platforms.
  • Compile, analyse, and interpret experimental results and data within an ISO13485 environment.
  • Record, document, and present summarised results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide technical advice on the integration of science and engineering-related aspects of the NGS platform.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Higher degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent employment experience, with knowledge of mechanical, fluidics, and electronics fundamentals applied to the Medical or Life Science sector.
  • Knowledge and experience of manufacturing techniques such as die casting, injection moulding, and diffusion bonding.
  • Experience with 3D CAD design (SolidWorks).
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of stage gate design processes, with first-hand experience using SolidWorks PDM.
  • Ability to utilise knowledge of microfluidics, pneumatics, fluid control, temperature control, and sensor integration to inform the design of components.
  • Ability to translate CAD data for rapid prototyping technologies.
  • Practical hands-on prototyping experience using CNC milling, 3D printing, laser cutting, plastic diffusion bonding, and plastic film lamination.
  • Experience completing technical QC documentation and working in an ISO13485 regulated environment.
  • Proven ability to analyse and communicate experimental results clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
