Description
This Principal OHL Design Engineer role will be reporting to the Associate OHL Engineer and will be responsible for all design elements of new build and refurbishment of overhead transmission lines in the UK.

This role requires experience in the production of all designs, calculations, reports & drawings associated with the new build or refurbishment of overhead line projects from 11kV - 400kV, experience in design of OHL with PLS-CADD and PLS-Tower, as well as experience of producing overhead line design packages to UK Transmission Owner specifications.

Some key responsibilities

  • Take ownership and lead production of OHL detailed design packages.
  • Ensure compliance of designs with client and national technical standards.
  • Lead team of junior engineers on the production of design packages and support their technical development.
  • Prepare calculations and technical/equipment specification documentation.
  • Undertake consultancy role on FEED stage projects, including production of technical reports and presentations.
  • Maintain compliance to CDM Regulations and all other legal and regulatory requirements associated with the nature of Overhead Line works
  • Manage the delivery of projects in accordance with Management Systems to meet time, quality, budgetary and health and safety targets.
  • Overall OHL design with PLS-CADD in accordance with BS-EN 50341.
  • Analysis of OHL structures with PLS-Tower.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng or equivalent in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer professional status, or equivalent or working towards.
  • Preferable: previous experience as CDAE under National Grid SR188 or meet the requirements to be appointed.

Essential Experience

  • Experience in PLS-CADD, PLS-Tower is essential.
  • Significant experience in HV OHL design in the UK electricity transmission & distribution sector.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience applying SPEN, SSEN, and / or National Grid Technical Specification, Technical Guidance Notes, Supplier Requirements and Design Handbooks relating to Overhead Line Design in the UK.
  • Thorough understanding of current Construction (Design & Management) Regulations, UK Health & Safety legislation, and Sustainability principles.
