Senior Mechanical Design Engineer £70-90k Base + Strong Bonus

An experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to be part of global R&D team you will use your mechanical design engineering expertise, Industrial Design, and Design for Manufacturing skills (DFM) to develop new product concepts and technology solutions from idea through to commercially viable solutions for the business. As senior mechanical engineer you will lead a team of engineers, ensuring their professional development and managing prioritisation of workload.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple technology areas in hardware and software and continuous improvement projects in the mechanical team, development and proving of new innovative solutions through to solutions ready for inclusion in mass-production end-to-end projects.
  • Lead projects from a technical basis, manage technical meetings, ensure the technical requirement and technical documentation are in place to support new designs and to meet project goals
  • Review the ex-category technology landscape and identify and evaluate technology and tools to enable the development of future platforms
  • Work with both internal and external partners to identify new suppliers, provide input to procurement in supplier selection - including identifying key technical requirements
  • Maintain and develop an IP (Intellectual Property) focus, interfacing with legal and building out patents to create robust patent applications and develop areas that are not covered by IP rights held elsewhere.
  • Providing coaching, mentoring, technical support and guidance for the team for business and product needs.
  • Ensure all internal development processes are followed and adhered to, and support the wider mechanical team in developing and improving ways or working and new processes, to ensure optimal team efficiency

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree-level qualification (i.e., Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering or Product Design)
  • Previous experience relating to the design and development of consumer electronic products.
  • An in-depth knowledge of product development and manufacturing techniques DFM, DFA and technologies
  • Hands on experience in component design and evaluation for electronic consumer devices
  • Proficient use and in-depth knowledge of one or more mechanical 3D CAD tools (ideally Siemens NX)
  • Experienced in employing development techniques such as FMEA, DFA, DFM, Design to Cost, etc
  • An understanding of simulation tools to assist in rapid development of designs
  • Experience of working with cross functional teams in a global organisation.
  • Proven track record in developing new technology solutions and delivering product innovation
  • Proven experience in a consumer electronics company/role leading new technology development
  • Significant experience, knowledge in high volume mechanical design (i.e. injection moulding, casting)
  • Demonstrative experience leading or development innovative new technology.
  • Strong analytical approach to developing new technology and problem solving (i.e. using first principles, hand calculations, simulations etc.)
  • Strong managerial/leadership skills, with a proven ability to lead and motivate team members, monitoring performance and ensuring high quality outputs
  • Knowledge and capability of designing and developing test fixtures and prototyping and regarding mechanical engineering in aspectssuchas:materialsandnovelmaterials,materialssourcing,airflow design,heattransfer etc.
  • Technical appreciation of the constraints / limitations of a wide range of prototyping and mid, practical application of key innovation toolsincluding: FMEA, critical controls, dimensional reports, tolerance stack analysis, generation of verification test plans, system performancedatatracking,andproficiencyinCAD(ideallySolidworksCertified,alternativelyCatia orUX)
