Position Summary:
As an Exam Technician you will be working on a live rail depot as a member of a team working on in service Rolling Stock fleets. Prior to a Train entering on to the rail network, the train systems and equipment which are critical to the safety of the passengers and/or crew, must be correctly configured and tested to ensure that the vehicle is fit for operation. Your will also be working on Units requiring technical attention before they may be moved, for example removal of current
collection shoe gear, shall undergo additional preparation following a Vehicle Maintenance Instructions (VMI). This could involve the following duties:
* Testing of essential vehicle control systems required for the movement including the train braking system
* Checking of defect reporting systems designed to advise known safety defects or restrictions applicable to the movement of the Train.
* Checking the presence of external equipment and systems connected to the vehicle, or in the path of the vehicle, for example wheel scotches, derailers, shore electrical supplies etc.
* Checking the correct operation of windscreen clearing/cleaning equipment
* Checking the safe condition of passenger and traincrew accommodation, for example lighting, heating etc.
* Door systems checks
* Checking Oil levels / Oil Change
* Checking Water levels
* Using a Laptop to run a diagnostics check
* Carry out basic Heating & Ventilation modifications
* Carry out basic seating modifications / Grab rail modifications
* Checking Driver seats / Wiper motors/ Couplers/ Actuators

Person Profile/Experience:
Previous Rolling Stock experience preferred though not essential. Engineers with mechanical experience from Aviation, HGV, PCV, Marine, Plant, Armed Forces or technical industries will be considered the ideal candidate will:
* Have the ability to carry out routine maintenance from written instructions.
* Knowledge of computer-based asset management system to record and close out work completed.
* Be able to review work carried out and improve sequencing in order to reduce timings to a minimum.
* Be able to prioritise work to maximise output with resources available.

Qualifications:
A recognised apprenticeship or level 3 NVQ equivalent in an Engineering discipline the minimum requirement for this role.
