Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Band 7 CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) Learning Disability Nurse to join our team at Springfield Hospital. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a school-based setting, supporting children and young people with learning disabilities and mental health challenges. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing expert care, intervention, and support to this vulnerable group, with a focus on managing challenging behaviours and promoting positive outcomes.
This position is offered on a temporary agency basis, with an hourly rate of £34, paid via umbrella. The role will involve working 3 days a week from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, starting on the 1st of April 2025.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Care and Support for Learning Disabilities: Provide nursing care to children and young people with learning disabilities, focusing on improving their quality of life and addressing their mental health and behavioural needs.
  • Mental Health and Challenging Behaviour: Assess and manage mental health conditions and challenging behaviours, utilizing your knowledge and experience of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to develop effective intervention strategies.
  • Autonomous Working: Work independently, managing tasks and clinical responsibilities based on the needs of the service users, ensuring high-quality care delivery at all times.
  • Collaborative Working: Engage in close networking with the school environment, liaising regularly with school staff, parents, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure a holistic and coordinated approach to care.
  • Assessment & Intervention: Conduct comprehensive assessments of mental health and learning disabilities, develop care plans, and implement interventions tailored to individual needs, ensuring a person-centred approach.
  • Monitor and Review: Monitor and review the progress of service users, ensuring appropriate adjustments to care plans are made based on evolving needs.
  • Risk Management: Identify and assess risks related to the care of service users with learning disabilities, challenging behaviour, and mental health needs, ensuring safety for both service users and staff.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of assessments, care plans, interventions, and reviews in compliance with NHS standards and regulations.
Key Requirements:
  • Experience with Learning Disabilities: Demonstrated experience of working with individuals with learning disabilities (excluding ADHD/ASD assessments), providing care and support tailored to their specific needs.
  • Mental Health & Challenging Behaviour: Proven experience in working with individuals experiencing mental health difficulties and challenging behaviours. A solid understanding and use of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is essential.
  • CAMHS Experience (Preferred): Experience working within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) setting, particularly with children and young people with learning disabilities and mental health challenges.
  • Autonomy: Ability to work independently, managing your workload effectively and prioritising tasks based on service needs.
  • Networking Skills: Experience in close collaboration and networking with multidisciplinary teams, educational staff, and families in a school or community setting.
  • Registered Nurse: Must hold a current NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registration as a nurse.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with service users, families, colleagues, and external agencies.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, contributing positively to service delivery.
