This is a unique opportunity to take on a highly strategic role, working closely with the most senior officers and Directors to influence the direction of the MPS.

As a Strategic HR Business Partner, you will act as a trusted advisor, shaping long-term people strategies and ensuring HR initiatives align with wider business objectives.

Your expertise will be crucial in building organisational capability, strengthening workforce planning, and driving talent and leadership development. Working at the highest levels, you will be ensuring HR plays a pivotal role in business transformation. Beyond advising on key strategic decisions, you will take shared ownership of business and organisational plans, partnering with senior stakeholders to deliver meaningful change.

If you are a forward-thinking HR leader with a passion for influencing strategy, driving transformation, and making a lasting impact, this role offers a platform to shape the future of MPS.

In return for your skills and dedication, you can expect a competitive salary, a Civil Service pension and excellent career development.

The key aspects of the role include:

  • Providing business specific strategic and consultative services and advice to the MPS Executive (Deputy Assistant Commissioner, staff equivalent and above) related to the people and change related issues impacting their business areas.
  • Managing the “pipeline” of resources and capability for specific parts of the business. Pro-actively managing the tensions that can be anticipated between the needs of the local business area and the overarching corporate deployment plan.
  • Owning and leading on the implementation of the Met’s People Strategy within the relevant functional area, working in close collaboration with the MPS Executive.
  • Building organisational and people capability and using the insight gained from working with the MPS Executive to inform longer term resource and talent management planning.
  • Gathering and sharing intelligence on effective people management practices and identify where improvements need to be made, so that HR services are continually improved.
  • Being a valued advisor to the MPS Executive on implementing change and transformation. Providing guidance and insight that is risk based and sensitive to the employee relations context.
  • Challenging senior leaders to implement a performance driven culture and modernise the organisation’s working practices and not merely to accept the established status quo.
  • Acting as a talent broker ensuring movement of talent to build individual and organisation capability. Challenging leadership colleagues to consider talent as a corporate-wide resource to ensure identified talent is exposed to an appropriately diverse set of development challenges across the organisation.

The Package

  • A competitive salary, including annual increases
  • ALPHA civil service pension (27.9% employers contribution)
  • 28 days + bank holidays (rising to 33 days after 5 years of service)
