The role is focused on acute inpatient work, providing essential therapeutic services to patients in a hospital setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality occupational therapy assessments, treatments, and interventions to patients with a range of conditions.

Job Summary:
- Provide specialist occupational therapy for a wide range of patients requiring assessment and complex discharge planning on acute inpatient wards.
- Offer specialized rehabilitation services to patients with diverse needs.
- Provide clinical supervision to Band 5 occupational therapists, therapy assistants, and students.
- Work in a challenging socio-economic environment, supporting patients with complex social issues, including those from culturally diverse backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with physiotherapy colleagues to manage an OT caseload on acute inpatient wards, supporting patients from admission to discharge and facilitating hospital flow.
- Conduct specialist Occupational Therapy assessments and implement interventions for patients with complex physical disabilities and cognitive deficits, using clinical reasoning and outcome measures.
- Screen acute inpatient wards for patients with new neurological diagnoses, referring them to the Acute Neurological Therapy Service (ANTS) as needed.
- Set rehabilitation goals, evaluate progress, and adapt therapy interventions, ensuring safe manual handling for complex patients.
- Communicate effectively with patients with speech, cognitive, and behavioral issues, including language barriers, and provide support for safe discharge through home visits and assessments.
- Liaise with external agencies to ensure effective discharge planning and continuity of care.
- Maintain accurate documentation, ensure goal-directed treatment, and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team for effective patient care.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rehabilitation and assessment, attending team meetings, and managing intermediate care referrals.
- Assess and recommend specialist equipment and adaptations, including upper limb assessments and home environment evaluations to meet patients' needs.
The position offers a competitive hourly rate, ranging from £25 to £36 per hour depending on experience, with the potential for an immediate start.
