Behaviour Mentor Job

We are working with an exceptional alternative provision resource in Camden local authority which provides temporary and permanent schooling for pupils who are struggling to handle the social, emotional and behavioural challenges that mainstream schooling provides. This fantastic Camden school is well run with a stable, supportive and committed Senior Leadership Team.

You will be part of a team providing a nurturing and inclusive environment where pupils will be given the support, encouragement and structure to allow them to gain the self respect, qualifications and social skills that will allow them to become positive, proactive and valuable members of society.

The school has high expectations for all its pupils and creates an environment that helps the pupils to see themselves in their best light. We are seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to work 1:1 with pupils aged 11-16 who can display challenging behaviour. The pupils are not violent but can be verbally challenging and demotivated.

The school is well situated in Camden with excellent transport links with regular bus, tube and overground services all nearby.

Behaviour Mentor Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support to students, helping them access the curriculum and fostering their social and emotional development.
  • Develop and implement individualised strategies to manage challenging behaviour in a calm and effective manner.
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to create and deliver a personalised support plan.
  • Build a trusting and positive relationship with the child to promote confidence and self-esteem.
  • Monitor and track progress, adapting strategies as needed to meet the child's evolving needs.

The Ideal Behaviour MentorExperience: Proven experience working with children with autism and managing challenging behaviour in an educational setting is desirable though not essential as full in house training will be provided.Skills:Strong communication skills, patience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.Knowledge: Maths and English GCSE's at C or above and knowledge of de-escalation techniques, and behaviour management approaches would be ideal.Commitment:A genuine passion for supporting young people get back on track and a proactive, problem-solving attitude.Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in education, social care, youth work or behavioural support are desirable but not essential.
