Purpose of role

  • To provide exemplary operational leadership in a service area to deliver the key outcomes for the Borough and its residents
  • To deliver the services, driving performance and overseeing service related projects in accordance with expectations and maximising effectiveness, value for money and reducing costs
  • To provide effective and inspirational leadership and management of our people.
  • To ensure a commercial approach to the management of services, contractors and suppliers
  • To drive continuous improvement and development of services drawing on best practice, emerging techniques and approaches
  • To contribute to and support the council's wider corporate and political priorities, and strategic-objectives within and across the service areas, and on projects across the Council as required.
  • To work in partnership with external organisations, professional bodies, community, resident and business groups where relevant to the delivery of better services
  • To work collaboratively across the Council with a focus on organisational and borough wide benefits in the delivery of service outcomes.
  • To work alongside the director and advise the Council's Corporate Management Board, Leader, Portfolio Holders and Cabinet in all matters relating to service operations, and policy as required.
