Reed Professional Services are seeking a qualified Inspector to play a central role in the maintenance of public confidence in the protection of animals used in scientific procedures. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act (ASPA) and requires a professional with a veterinary or medical background. The position offers the chance to apply regulatory, leadership, and strategic expertise in a home-based setting with travel requirements.

Day to Day of the role:
  • Prioritise and process casework on a day-to-day basis.
  • Assure compliance with ASPA through strategic oversight of governance processes.
  • Guide the regulated community on licensing requirements and compliance with ASPA.
  • Make informed decisions on licence applications under ASPA.
  • Assess licence holders’ compliance through on-site visits, audits, documentation reviews, and interviews.
  • Analyse complex data to identify patterns and trends for informed decision-making.
  • Develop and monitor remedial plans to enhance compliance.
  • Communicate compliance indicators and instigate improvements.
  • Document assessments of compliance with clear improvement requirements.
  • Benchmark performance and adopt best practices for continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate and enhance standard operating procedures, standards, frameworks, and regulatory guidance.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Full registration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) or the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Knowledge of biomedical and life sciences research, including the UK research environment and regulatory framework.
  • Experience in data collection, integration, and reporting.
  • Proven ability in policy development, implementation, and assessment.
  • Ability to influence senior individuals positively.
  • Track record of delivering objectives and innovating solutions to problems.
  • Experience in partnership working with organisations at all levels.
  • Skilled in communicating complex technical and/or legal subjects to diverse audiences.
  • Attention to detail and a completer/finisher approach to tasks.
