Pastoral Tutor - Full Time (17.97/hour)

Temporary Position - ASAP until the end of the academic year

Hours: 9 AM - 5 PM

Purpose of the Job:
  • Work alongside teaching staff to provide pastoral support for learners, aiming to improve attendance, retention, and achievement while encouraging positive progression and enhancing the overall learner experience.
  • Deliver and facilitate a prescribed tutorial curriculum through weekly group sessions that help develop learners' broader skills and knowledge, contributing to their growth as responsible, respectful, and active citizens.
  • Contribute to developing learners' character, fostering key qualities like confidence, resilience, and mental well-being to support their success in society.
  • Prepare learners for the next phase of their education journey.

Specific Duties:
  • Deliver and facilitate the core tutorial curriculum through group sessions using the prescribed resources, which may include facilitating online activities.
  • Start each group tutorial by reviewing attendance for all elements of the learners' program from the previous week.
  • Conduct 1:1 tutorials with learners, setting and reviewing SMART targets based on performance data and in collaboration with teaching staff.
  • Provide additional 1:1 tutorials and case work outside of scheduled sessions based on learners' needs.
  • Support learners' progression both internally and externally, including guiding Level 3 students through the UCAS process.
  • Monitor at-risk learners and collaborate with parents, teachers, and support teams to maintain engagement, attendance, and achievement.
  • Assist learners in organizing and tracking work experience or placements as needed.
  • Represent the learners and organization at relevant internal and external meetings.
  • Keep detailed records of all interventions with learners, including SMART targets and notes, through the relevant student management system.
  • Work with identified curriculum areas, reporting directly to the relevant team leader, and liaise with teaching staff to ensure tutorial input aligns with academic goals.
  • Contribute to campus enrichment activities, leading at least one aspect such as the Jack Petchey Scheme, student union, enrichment clubs, or campus events.
  • Support learners in accessing internal and external support services.
  • Record safeguarding concerns using the relevant systems and contribute to student welfare initiatives.
  • Participate in events such as open evenings, parents' evenings, and student interviews, and assist with induction schedules and materials.
  • Attend course review meetings and curriculum area meetings as required.
  • Work flexibly to support administrative tasks that contribute to the overall quality of the provision.
General Administration:
  • Proficient in using IT for administrative tasks, including MS Office and student record management systems.
  • A strong understanding of and commitment to equality, diversity, safeguarding, and their practical implementation in the role.
Person Specification:
  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training (formerly PTLLS) or working towards it.
  • Relevant safeguarding and mental health first aid training to support young people.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to form positive working relationships with young people.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and establish good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in working positively with young people to support their development and progression.
Skills:
  • Proficient IT skills, including use of MS Office software and student management databases.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships as part of a team.
  • Ability to support others and demonstrate initiative.
