Role Overview:
As the Payroll and Pensions Officer, you'll oversee the accurate and timely processing of payroll and administration of public sector pensions. You'll work closely with HR to ensure seamless integration of employee data and compliance with legislation, providing essential support to staff and management.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Management:
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for full-time, part-time, and casual employees.
- Oversee payroll deductions, including PAYE, National Insurance, student loans, and pension contributions.
- Process payroll for new starters and leavers, ensuring timely inclusion or removal.
Pensions Administration:
- Administer public sector pensions (e.g., LGPS, TPS) with full compliance to scheme-specific regulations.
- Communicate with pension providers regarding contributions, starters, leavers, and retirement cases.
- Prepare and submit statutory returns, including year-end pension contributions and other required documentation.
Compliance and Reporting:
- Maintain compliance with payroll and pension legislation, including tax, National Insurance, and auto-enrolment.
- Provide regular and ad-hoc reports to senior management, including payroll summaries and pension data.
- Support internal and external audits, ensuring all payroll and pension processes meet scrutiny.
Process Improvement and Collaboration:
- Liaise closely with HR to ensure accurate data sharing for contracts, employee changes, and compliance.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve payroll and pension processes.
- Provide training and guidance to HR and finance colleagues on payroll and pensions matters.

What We're Looking For:
- Proven experience in payroll processing and pensions administration, preferably within a large organization.
- Strong knowledge of payroll and pensions legislation, including tax, NI, and auto-enrolment requirements.
- AAT qualification or substantial progress towards AAT
- Excel ability to at least intermediate level
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills for liaising with staff, management, and external providers.
- Proficiency with payroll and pensions software, with the ability to maintain data integrity.
